The aim of this study was to investigate the differences between grape juices produced from different clones of Concord grapes in its total polyphenols content and antioxidant capacity. Six clones of the Concord cultivar (Vitis labrusca) were evaluated on three rootstocks (IAC 766, IAC 572 and 420-A). For both variables, significant interactions between clones of Concord and rootstocks were observed, The content of total polyphenols ranged from 990.03 to 2011.87 mgL-1 and antioxidant capacity from 5524.72 to 11646.46 μM (EqTrolox), from the combinations 28/IAC 572 and clone 22/420-A, respectively. A relative positive correlation were observed between levels of total polyphenols and antioxidant activity (r=0.8732). It is concluded that different clones of Concord interact with the rootstocks, causing significant differences between treatments for concentrations of total polyphenols and antioxidant capacity. The results show that it is possible to improve the content of total polyphenols and antioxidant activity of Concord grape juice depending on the combination between the scion clone and the rootstock. |
